In the heart of Provence, Pélissanne is a typical southern village exuding the timeless charm of the region while embracing modernity.
Pélissanne was first inhabited 4,000 years B.C.
During Antiquity, Pélissanne was a hub for commercial activities, where the Via Aurelia and other pre-Roman roads converged. During the Middle Ages, the village was fortified with protective walls. The construction of the canal by Adam de Craponne contributed to the development of agriculture.
Today, many monuments invite visitors to step back in time: from the ancient centre to the 16th century, by way of the clock tower, the Fountain of the Pelican, or the Jean-Bertrand Mill – an emblem of the village’s milling heritage of the 20th century.
“Pelissano,” as it’s known in the traditional Provençal language, is also a village with many festivities throughout the year: the Corso Fleuri (floats decorated with many flowers) and the transhumance in spring, bull-themed running in summer, the Christmas market, and Provençal songs in winter. The weekly Sunday market attracts visitors from across the department, adding to the lively atmosphere of the village.
A great pleasure for all your senses!
