Aurons, the pearl of the Val de Cuech

Aurons, often referred to as the “pearl of the Val de Cuech,” is a little village between Pélissanne and Salon-de-Provence, proudly preserving its Provençal charm.

Aurons has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The village has witnessed the passage of Ostrogoths, Visigoths, and Celts. The castle of Castelas (small castle), erected on Roman foundations in the 10th century, was the residence of the Earl of Provence, the Archbishop of Arles, and Antoine de Cordoue. In 1930, the sisters of Saint Vincent de Paul bought it. Tragically, the Germans destroyed the castle at the end of World War II.

Beyond the Castelas and the protective gaze of the Virgin, you can discover a typical Provençal village, reminiscent of Marcel Pagnol’s tales. Visitors can explore the picturesque church, the communal washhouse, and the ancient bicentenary plane tree in the middle of the village. While in Aurons, don’t miss visiting the plateau of Sonnailler with its castle and Saint Martin Chapel. Numerous scenic walks await exploration in this idyllic setting.
