The village of Alleins nestled between the Alpilles and the Luberon, is an ideal place to discover Provence. Learn more about the village’s 4000-year-old history, through listed historical monuments and vibrant festivities that make Alleins a cultural, touristic, and dynamic hub in the region.
We found the trace of life 4000 years ago. For centuries, Alleins has been a pivotal place for the transhumance road toward the Alps and the salt road. In the 10th century, a “castelas’ ‘ (small castle) was built atop the hill of the current village, and gradually habitations emerged around it.
In 1558, Adam de Craponne revolutionized agriculture with the construction of a canal that still meanders through the city today. The canal’s embankment offers a peaceful path. Visitors can discover the centre of the village including Renaissance-era houses, St Pierre Chapel adorned with Gallo Romain’s bas-reliefs, the belfry symbolizing the village’s entrance, the calvary road, the panorama on the Durance valley and the Luberon mountains, among other treasures…
Provençal culture is preserved thanks to the traditional Camargue-style bull run “à la corcade”, held in the village’s arenas during summer months.
Alleins captivates and inspires visitors with the richness of the heritage, hospitality, and dynamism!
